Kayla Nakasone

Kalani High School

Hello, my name is Kayla Nakasone. I graduated from Kalani in 2009 and am beginning my third year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Management.  I started attending First Assembly of God in my senior year of high school. At first I agreed to go just to keep my sister company but when I heard my pastor’s sermon for the first time I immediately knew that a relationship with Jesus was what I had been missing in my life. Before it would have seemed like I had everything a girl could want. I was getting good grades in high school, I played on a great soccer team, I had good friends, and a wonderful family but I couldn’t shake the fact that I still felt a sense of emptiness. I tried to fill this void by taking on more activities such as community service projects and trying out different sports but I realized I wasn’t filling the void; I was just filling my schedule.

I prayed for opportunities to give back by giving others the opportunity to experience Christ the way I have been able to. This past year I got the chance to visit the CORE club at Kalani and I was overwhelmed to see the awesome things happening at my alma mater. Youth for Christ is such a great cause and I couldn’t help but think how life changing and life saving it would’ve been if I had gone to the CORE club when I was a freshman. When I was asked to help out with Youth for Christ I was just so extremely thankful. Thankful for the opportunity to share with the youth the love of Christ. To be able to see God move in other people’s lives is the greatest experience and I would just be so grateful to be a part of it. Thank you.
